Back View of the English-style park of Château d’Attre during Vestalia Day, Hainaut, Belgium

Guided park tour, followed by a welcome drink

Vestalia Day

For Vestalia Day, Château d’Attre opens its doors for a guided tour of the park. Led by a member of the family, the tour ends with a welcome drink.

The park — both an English-style garden and a woodland park — is home to remarkable examples of the art of garden follies from the first half of the 19th century. A Swiss chalet, a bathing pavilion and a dovecote : all seem to have passed through the centuries untouched.

The undisputed highlight is the Artificial Rock, a pre-Romantic ruin erected in the 18th century. Rising from the grandeur of the surrounding landscape, this grotto once served as a hunting observation post, used once a year to mark the visit of Archduchess Marie-Christine of Austria and her husband.

Let yourself be carried back through the centuries in this preserved garden, where every stone has a story to tell …
